Date/time: This is a three-session live program on Monday 27th, Tues 28th, Weds 29th June, 10am-12noon
Course venue: ONE Heart, 167, Geylang Road, S38924
As a teenager, what were the life-skills you wish you had been taught, in addition to all your school subjects?
These sessions are specifically designed to help teens develop their real inner skills that help them be:
- More effective at achieving their chosen goals
- Build confidence,
- Build resilience around stress and
- Increase their capacity for fun and enjoyment as they learn.
It is structured as a three-session course. Each session includes practical mindfulness exercises that help the children to experience and get better at the skills, not just learn about them intellectually.
The premise of the course is that all of these are learnable skills, rather than ones that you are either born with or not. Access to knowledge of these skills gives your teenager the chance to take greater benevolent control of her/his destiny
Session 1 – Monday June 27th, 10am-12noon:
Part 1 – How to focus your attention – In a world full of distractions, what are the ways in which you can focus properly, relax into one activity at a time, combing being calm stability while getting more of your chosen activity (Eg: Study) done?
Part 2 – How to think better – At school we are told what to think about and what information to memorize, but not how to think. This module looks at how to think effectively, think better, deal with mental overactivity and use your mind as a tool for creating a positive and enjoyable reality, even amidst challenges.
Session 2 – Tuesday June 28th, 10am-12noon
Part 1 – How to regulate and even enjoy thrive off stress and anxiety – With so much pressure to fit in, so much information to process, so much choice and uncertainty round the future it can be difficult not to get stressed in a way that isn’t fun. Here we focus on how to meet and deal with stress in ways that helps us to keep calm, and use the stress as a stepping stone to thriving under pressure, rather than feeling overwhelmed.
Part 2 – Working with emotional intelligence – Emotions are non-rational, instinctive and free flowing. Learning to work with and feel comfortable with a range of emotions opens the door to enjoyment, pleasure and wellbeing in life. Yet often we find ourself fighting with emotions, and feeling oppressed by ‘negative’ ones. This session is on understanding emotions and feeling comfortable with them!
Session 3 – Wednesday June 29th, 10am-12noon:
Part 1 – Mindful relationship skills – How can we mindfully build healthy relationships, learn to build trust, and make good choices? This session looks at ways of being aware and paying attention that can help us get better at relationships and be confident in our interactions.
Part 2 – Self-esteem: Building a healthy self-concept – Your self-concept is your idea of who you are and what you are worthy of. Building good self-esteem is a main foundation for confidence, self-trust and enjoying who you are as you navigate the ups and downs of your life.
